How to Remove Gravy Stains From Carpet

Oracle carpet cleaning Brisbane || How to Remove Gravy Stains?

Thanksgiving is almost here! It’s a time to be thankful and a time to celebrate with friends and family and of course, it’s a time to eat really delicious food.

If Thanksgiving is known for anything, it’s for all the fabulous feasts people will be enjoying throughout Brisbane this week.

There’s the turkey and the stuffing. Then there are green beans, casseroles, dinner rolls and pies. Yum! Yum!

Oh, and of course, mash potatoes with gravy. What’s Thanksgiving without gravy?

Gravy and Thanksgiving go hand in hand, but not gravy and carpet. If you or one of your guest spill gravy on your carpet during your celebration, don’t worry, we have the carpet stain removal tips you need to remove gravy from carpet before it’s even time to serve the pumpkin pie:

Basic steps to remove Gravy Stains

Baking Soda

Before using any cleaning solution on your carpet to remove the gravy, you will want to scrape off any excess gravy so that all that remains is the liquid portion of the stain. Hopefully there won’t be too much left to deal with.

After you have removed the excess gravy, take a damp, white cloth and try to blot up as much of the stain with water as possible. Sometimes, if treated quickly enough, water alone will be enough to remove carpet stains like gravy.

If there is still some of the gravy stain left, sprinkle baking soda over it and then let the baking soda sit for roughly 10-15 minutes or so.

The baking soda should help lift the gravy stain to the surface so that now you can just vacuum over it and remove the stain entirely.

White Vinegar

Another option for removing gravy from carpet is to use white vinegar. Same as with the baking soda, you will first want to scrape off the excess gravy and to blot the stain with a wet white cloth.

Once complete, mix a tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water and then sponge the gravy stain with the solution.

After the solution has soaked into the stain, blot it with a cold, wet white cloth before drying it using another white cloth.

Dishwasher Detergent

If neither the baking soda nor the white vinegar work, you can attempt to use dish washing detergent using the same formula as the white vinegar: 1 tablespoon dish soap, 2 cups warm water.

However, be careful using too much dish washing detergent. Dish washing detergent is soap and it is not good to use too much soap when cleaning carpet. If soap isn’t 100% rinsed or soaked out of the carpet, a residue will be left behind that will attract dirt.

Cleaning Chemicals

Some carpet stain removal advice sites will recommend using harsh cleaning chemicals such as dry cleaning solvent or store-bought stain removal products. These products can be harmful to your carpet if used incorrectly. They also are not eco-friendly and could be harmful to your health as well.
